About MEML:

The USC Mobile & Environmental Media Lab is known for its pioneering research efforts in the area of ‘Ambient Storytelling’ through the application of Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality technologies to develop unique interactive location-based experiences.  Housed within USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, the lab’s design methodology straddles the cultures of visual storytelling, games, and interaction design.

Location 33 (like a concatenated record rpm) is a mobile folk album distributed across space and time. By using a mobile phone or PDA, a listener can hear a music album a different way – by moving through it.

projectCAR began as a project for the graduate seminar “Design and Technology for Mobile Experiences,” taught by Julian Bleecker. It offered graduate students the opportunity to develop an informed sense of the possibilities for Mobile Interactive Media in a variety of idioms, including entertainment, collaboration and communication. In societies where Mobile Interactive Media aspires to be ubiquitous, understanding the opportunities for creating compelling mobile experiences has become vital.
